Tai Streets. What an athlete. Drafted by the 49ers in 1999 in the sixth round out of the University of Michigan, Streets played behind Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens for his first two seasons. When Rice departed in 2001, Streets moved into the starting lineup...wearing this helmet! He finished with the Niners in 2003 before joining the Detroit Lions for his final NFL season in 2004. This is Streets 2001 helmet . All components of this helmet are original, worn by Streets, and consistent with 49ers game helmets.
Schutt Pro AiR II model helmet, painted pro gloss SF Gold, in a size Large. The helmet comes complete with a Schutt OPO facemask as preferred by Streets thoughout his entire NFL career due to its lightweight design and optimum visability. The mask is attached to the helmet with Schutt Clips on the top and sides. Phillips Schutt screws are used to secure the mask. The mask is dated 1998. All four (4) Schutt clips are dated 1999. The chinstrap is an Adams Pro 100 low mount configuration. The straps have had the Adams names removed per NFL uniform guidelines. Adams metal buckles hold the chinstrap to the helmet in both low positions.
The decals of the helmet remain intact with no lifting or seperation from the helmet. They are scuffed and show light use. The center stripe is a triple stripe as preferred by the 49ers equipment staff on the ridgeless Schutt helmets. It too has scuffs and scrapes on it, is trimmed to length at the rear of the helmet, and has a round hole cut-out at the air bladder valve. Decals on the rear of the helmet include: Authentic team "mini" warning label, NFL Shield, and American Flag (first year worn). No rear bumper is applied by the 49ers Equipment Staff to any of their Schutt helmets, likewise, a "49ers" decal covers the Schutt name on the front nose bumper of the helmet. On the front of the helmet is athletic tape with Street's #89 written on it by the 49er Equipment Manager. Inside the helmet is a 2001 All American reconditioning sticker and the worn remains of the famous 3/4 inch dymo tape above the right jawpad. The dymo tape had been chiseled off - perhap when the helmet was issued to Streets from another departed player. (Wait...didn't Rice depart the Niners prior to the 2001 season? Didn't Rice wear this same style of helmet? Just sayin'...) The #89 is written in marker above the left jawpad.
The inside of the helmet is in good condition with moderate wear and stained padding. The facemask has scuffs and scrapes. This helmet displays very well. Originally sourced from Tai Streets storage locker in which the contents were auctioned off for a severely past due balance.
