Game Worn New Orleans Pro AiR II helmet used in the 1999 pre- season. The Schutt Pro AiR II model helmet in a size large is original and complete with the exception of the chinstrap. The helmet shows moderate wear to the exterior and interior of the helmet. The helmet has its original Schutt NJOP model facemask, secured to the helmet with the original clips and hardware. Conventional clips secure the top mounts while double clips secure the mask at the sides as worn by the Saints during this period.
The helmet exhibits light wear on the exterior and the interior, consistent with preseaon play with no reconditioning. The logos and striping is original, properly positioned, and adhered well to the helmet with no lifting. The helmet has game decals on the rear including the team warning label, and NFL shield decal. There is a #76 team applied player identifier on the rear side stripes. The front bumper of the helmet has a SAINTS decal covering the "AiR" name. The rear bumper is blank, with no AiR name or Schutt name - per NFL Uniform Guidelines of the period.
No active rostered player player wore #76 for the Saints during the 1999 season, with Keno Hills wearing the number the prior season. With the 1999 datecode of the helmet, and with the Saints moving to smaller side decals the following season, it is clear that this helmet was used for preseason play, or different player numbers were applied to the helmet prior to its release.
