Detroit Lions game used helmet from the 1999 season. The XL sized VSR4 model helmet is all original and complete, attributed to Barry Sander’s blocker - Juan Roque. Roque, drafted high in the 2nd round out of Arizona State, never quite lived up to expectations for the Lions. The helmet had been used for a prior season for Roque and still exhibits the wear on the front of the helmet from the 1997 season (see the photo match to the front wear below). Roque wore #73 his rookie seasonbut suffered a knee injury during the Thanksgiving game and missed the rest of the season. He spent the 1998 season on injured reserve but came back to play in 1999 while wearing this helmet and #74 for the Lions.
The helmet has its original logos on the sides, warning label, NFL shield, and Roque's #74 player identifier on the rear of the helmet, along with another player identifier on the helmet interior - consistent with Lions game helmets from this era. The helmet has moderate to heavy wear with the deep gouges on the front of the helmet along with the normal wear on the helmet’s inside. The facemask is a Schutt RJOP-UB-DW-XL model with a datecode of 199, secured with the original clips, hardware, and shockblockers at the side mounting points. Great helmet, with great wear, that does not get any better!
