1996 Game Worn Used Leon Lett AF2 model helmet.   The massive size 7 5/8 helmet is original, complete, and was worn by Lett in the early half of the 1996 season before switching to a new helmet with a different mask style to finish the season.   It is uncertain whether the helmet was wrn by Lett prior to the 1996 season - given the reconditioning for the 1996 season, however it "style" matches very well to the same AF2 model, in the same 7 5/8 size, with the same mask style and leather jaw pads as shown in the last two photos below of Lett from 1995.  

As mentioned, the helmet is complete except for the chinstrap, kept by Lett to use with his new helmet issued in November of 1996.  The helmet shows moderate wear on the exterior and interior with the well worn leather jaw pads that Lett used for multiple seasons.   The logos and striping is original to the helmet, properly positioned, and adhered well with no lifting.   The star logo decals are positioned higher on the helmet than what Lett wore during the prior 1995 season.  The striping was relaced as is common with Cowboys helmets in which the original stripes are cut away from the helmet and replaced by new - applied over the ends of the original stripes on the helmet.  This was done on all center stripes - to keep the dymo tape player identifier with the helmet, but also on heavily worn or damaged side stripes as well.  This practice can be seen on the photos above, and below as well as on photos of Lett from both the 1995 and 1996 seasons.  The helmet has the NJOP model Schutt mask with a 1996 datecode.  The mask shows good wear for the few games that Lett wore the helmet in 1996.  The mask is secured with well worn conventional Schutt Armor Guard clips at all four (4) locations on the helmet. Finally, the helmet has been signed by Lett, big and bold on the sweet spot of the helmet and authenticated by JSA.  

The helmet has several game decals including the team applied warning label, NFL Shield, and bumper decals on the front and rear bumpers.  The original dymo tape player identifier "LETT" is on the rear lower portion of the center stripe, as the Cowboys have done with their helmets since the 1960s.  There is also a "40" written on the inside of the helmet, possibly indicating a prior issue to a different player prior to Lett - a common practice by the Cowboys equipment staff from well prior to this period continuing to this day.   Additionally, there is an All-American size sticker of 7 5/8 above the warning label as the Cowboys had during this era, as well as an additional size sticker on the helmet interior.  The helmet has a reconditioning sticker for the 1996 season, with shadowing of prior recon stickers and size sticker in the same location. Finally, there is a "96" scratched/engraved on the inside of the helmet under the jawpad for the year of the helmet rather than a player identifier.  Great helmet, of America's Team, of a star Pro Bowl player, for your collection.
