Game Worn Penn State Nittany Lions Riddell VSR4 model helmet in a Large size.  The helmet Is attributed to offensive lineman and Penn State star Jeff Hartings.  The helmet was originally manufactured in 1992 and used for Hartings's freshman seasons in 1992 - given the "LIONS" nose bumper decal.  The VSR4 helmet was very popular in both college football as well as the NFL in the early 90s and continued as Riddell’s top of the line helmet for more than a decade.

Hartings, a two-time All-American was a star in the vaunted 1994 Penn State offense that remains one of the most explosive in college football history.  He was a consensus first-team All-American in 1995, and was the Detroit Lions first round pick in the 1996 NFL Draft.  He finished his 11 year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.   He retired following the 2006 season due to knee problems.

The helmet is a size large in game used condition with extreme exterior wear with scuffs and deep gouges to the crown, front, and mask of the helmet.  The helmet is original and complete except for the chinstrap.  The exterior and interior show great gridiron game wear with the VSR4 padding remaining in complete and good condition.  The facemask is a Schutt NJOP-DW model as worn by Hartings while at Penn State, original, in game used shape with extreme rare - down to bare metal throughout the mask.  It is secured to the helmet using the original clips at the top mounts and original navy shockblockers and hardware at the helmet sides.

The helmet is original as sourced to us.  The stripe is original, positioned properly, and adhered to the helmet very well with no lifting.   There is a Hartings name written on the helmet interior and also has a “Hartings” sticker and "NJOP-DW" sticker also on the interior of the helmet.

When we purchased the helmet, the seller included a photo of the written name on the inside of the helmet.  It appeared to read "HART  65".  Upon researching a player named HART, it became obvious that it was a helmet worn by Hartings and that the "65" was the "GS" of his name while the "IN" was worn away from putting on and taking off the helmet using his thumbs through the earhole.

A nice game used helmet, original, complete, and ready to display.
