This is a Michigan helmet shell from the 1980s. MaxPro 2001 model - which the team used and often times converted with BIKE padding. This shell seems to be one of those cases with velcro throughout the shell interior that looks like it would secure BIKE padding. Additionally, a second hole has been drilled in the center ridge of the helmet to accommodate the BIKE air valve. Size large. States "89 Rejected" written on the interior of the shell - most likely for small cracks at the side facemask mount holes.
We bought this helmet here in Michigan many years ago - as just the shell. After displaying it and listing it to sell as the shell, we decided to put it back as original with the installation of MaxPro padding, including original MaxPro jaw pads. We contemplated putting the helmet back as the Pro AiR or AiR Power model as used by Michigan later with these helmets. As it is, its a rare Michigan shell. Not sure why they used MaxPro shells with BIKE padding. Some Michigan slappy can probably answer that. I have heard that MaxPro offered XL shells while BIKE did not. As with all Michigan helmets, the wings and stripes are created in the painting process. The helmet has a warning label on the rear as applied by the University when they would release a helmet. If the buyer would like the helmet with Schutt padding, we can certainly discuss it along with the additional cost associated with the conversion.
