Game used helmet of Cleveland Browns wide receiver John Jefferson. Jefferson was drafted in the first round, 14th overall by the San Diego Chargers out of Arizona State. He put up staggering numbers his first three seasons with the Chargers, becoming the first player in NFL history to gain more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three (3) seasons. Jefferson was 2nd team All-Pro his rookie season, and was First Team All-Pro in each of the next two seasons. After a contract dispute, he was traded to the Green Bay Packers where he teamed with James Lofton and Paul Coffman to form the finest receiving corp the Packers had ever had. After another contract dispute, Jefferson finished his career with the Cleveland Browns - playing in just seven games catching three (3) passes while wearing this helmet.
The Riddell WD1 model helmet in a 7 1/4 size has a manufacturing date code of 1985 - making it clear the Browns were not issuing their new coveted wide receiver a used helmet. The helmet is original and complete with the exception of the chinstrap. The original Browns striping is perfect and adhered well to the helmet with no lifting. The facemask is an original Riddell stainless steel OPO as preferred by Jefferson since his Packers playing days - secured to the helmet with original Riddell clips and hardware. The helmet has light to moderate wear, and showcases Jefferson's #89 player identifier on the rear of the helmet, flanking each brown side stripe. An amazing helmet of a big time receiver who's career took a bit of a detour and never got back on the right path.
