Game Worn Southern Illinois Salukis Riddell WD1 model helmet in a rare 7 1/2 XL size.  The helmet was originally manufactured in 1985 and used for many seasons.  Ahh, small school program with a small budget!  The WD1 helmet was very popular in both college football as well as the NFL in the early 1980s and continued as one of Riddell’s top of the line helmets for more than a decade.  The University went back to this rounded logo for the 1996 season only, after wearing the same logo from 1978 through the 1983 season.  Hence, this is a bit of a rare helmet, released following the season due to its age, while the rest of the team helmets were reconditioned for the 1997 season with the block SIU logos.

The helmet is a size XL 7 1/2 in game used, heavy wear condition with scuffs and deep gouges to the front of the helmet.  The helmet is original and complete except for the chinstrap.  The exterior and interior show great gridiron game wear with the WD1 padding remaining in complete and good condition.  The jaw pads are Riddell vinyl, Pac style with some writing on the insides. The facemask is a NOPO model, original, in great shape and is secured to the helmet using the original clips and hardware.

The helmet is original as sourced to us.  The logos are original, positioned properly, and adhered to the helmet very well with no lifting.   There are no player names or player numbers written on the helmet interior.

A nice game used helmet, original, complete, and ready to display.
