Game Worn Dallas Cowboys helmet from the 1984 season. The helmet is a very rare Nokona brand. With Nokona located in Texas, the Cowboys did indeed use this brand in the 70s and 80s. Nokona - famous for their well made baseball gloves did produced other sports equipment including football helmets. Although most of these helmets were used at the high school level and youth leagues, few made their way into southern states college equipments rooms and a few found their way into the NFL. Baylor, also located in Texas used Nokona helmets during the 1970s and early 80s as well.
The helmet has a Schutt NJOP 80s style mask installed - which is not original to the helmet. When we obtained the helmet, it has an incorrect facemask attached with modern clips and hardware. Since the mask and hardware were not original to the helmet, we replaced them with period correct components as well as having appropriate wear to match the helmet. The logos and striping are original, properly positioned, and adhered well to the helmet with no lifting. The Star logos obviously were replaced during the helmets use as adhesive residue from previous star logos remains around and under the present decals. The helmet has a reconditioning style warning label on the rear right side of the helmet. The helmet has a dymo tape player identifier on the rear center stripe of the helmet. The name "Phillips" is on the tape although we can find no "Phillips" on a Cowboys active roster from the time period of the helemt. Great very rare game used helmet of a team in which their game used helmets from this period do not come around often, of a brand that we have only seen one other example of.
