How many Steelers clear shell helmets have you seen? Not many. Very rare Pittsburgh Steelers MaxPro Clear Shell Helmet. The helmet is a Kineomatic 21 model which was a carry over model from the Marietta manufacturing days in the early to mid 1970s. The helmet has an original MaxPro sticker on the interior with a manufacturing date of 1982.
The helmet is in excellent condition with very nice paint, the Steelers logo, and the mustard yellow center stripe under the shell. The Steelers did use clear shell helmets, wih their logo both under the shell as well as conventional decals applied on the helmet's exterior. Brashaw wore this model of helmet both ways as well - with the decal under the shell late in his career as shown by the photo below.
The helmet has the original, and ultra rare leather padding including the very rare original Marietta/MaxPro leather jawpads. The helmet has a Schutt Bradshaw style model OPO facemask secured to the helmet with reproduction clips yet retains its original hardware. The mask is an original with the original plastisol coating. The helmet has Bradshaw's #12 player identifier on both the front and rear of the helmet. The numbers are the proper font and mil thickness that the Steelers wore.
Clear shell helmets as you know are very rare and highly sought after. This is a very rare model helmet of a team that is tough to find in a clear shell model.
