Game Used, worn 1978 Green Bay Packers helmet attributed to QB David Whitehurst. Packer fans know Whitehurst as one of the many quarterbacks to start for the Packers between Bart Starr and the great Lynn Dickey. The helmet was sourced from an Auction House and comes unaltered from its purchase. The helmet is a Riddell Pac3 model - as preferred by the Packers and their equipment department in the mid to late 1970s. The helmet is complete with the original Pac3 padding along with leather jawpads. The helmet has a datecode of 1978 and has the #17 identifier hand written twice on the inside of the helmet along with the 17 Dymo Tape identifier on the rear of the helmet. The helmet interior sticker notes a size 7 however the Pac3 padding is set up as a 7 1/4 in the exact configuration that was spec'd to Whitehurst (we own these equipment room notes of sizes of all equipment of players from this era). The helmet was purchased with a rare Riddell JOP stainless facemask - as worn by Packers QBs however Whitehurst primarily wore a Schutt OPO mask for most of his career. The helmet has moderate QB wear to the shell and side logos. The helmet is all original as it was sourced to us. Great helmet of a "star" player of a tough team to find in the helmet market - in great display condition.
A friend of Real Stuff Sports has contacted us and sent us some footage of the Packers Eagles from week 13 of the 1979 season. Here are some screen shots from the low resolution broadcast.
