Game used early BIKE AiR Power model helmet from the 1978 season. The helmet is original, complete and unaltered in any manner, and was used for several seasons for the Huskies.
The Huskies during this period would recondition their helmets each season and often during the season with a quick repainting of the helmet with the gold paint. This was accomplished without the removal of the facemask, front bumper, chinstrap button snaps or any of te interior padding. All of these items were painted over with the gold paint when the helmet shell was repainted. Today, those helmets are very scarce, rarely found, and when purchased do not reappear on the collector marketplace.
The helmet is complete including the rare BIKE chinstrap and the Schutt 1970s style NOP model mask - complete with the gold paint overspray. The mask is loose frm the helmet with the original gold painted clips broken after turning brittle like all clips from this era do. We have not replaced the clips with reproductions like we do on other helmets due to the original gold paint overspray on the clips; the new owner can decide to replace the clips or leave the original clip remains on the helmet.
If you are a Huskies collector or have seen Huskies' helmets from this era, they normally never have the padding inside of the helmet. The university was strict that the padding was removed from each helmet when it was released from the helmet. This helmet has the complete padding on the inside of the helmet. The interior padding includes the Air Power double blue air bladder with green (size large) valve, the original BIKE handed jaw pads, and the very rare first generation bladder blocks. The eight (8) bladder blocks are the early squared/sharp edge variety prior to changing to the rounded blocks in the early 1980s. The helmet has the letters "HC" written on the helmet interior along with some faded writing on two of the mentioned bladder blocks. Great rare model helmet, rarely ever found this nice and complete, at a great price.
