Game Worn Jets MaxPro Kineomatic helmet. This very rare MaxPro (previously Marietta) Kineomatic model helmet was molded in 1977 and produced in January of 1978 after the Marietta line was sold to MaxPro. Of course the Jets switched to a green helmet later in the year for the 1978 season. The Kineomatic model was developed in the early 1970s to provide more protection than the Riddell suspension helmets and the new Riddell Micro fit. The Kineomatic had leather padding, secured to the helmet using velcro. The pads came in different thicknesses and were easily changed in the shell, in different configurations, to provide a perfect fit to virtually every head size and shape. As the padding was leather and new leather padding is very stiff, often times players or equipment managers would remove the padding from the helmets prior to releasing the “retired” helmet - to use in a new helmet. Hence, often times when you are fortunate or even lucky to find a Kineomatic, it is usually missing some or all of the leather padding.
The helmet is all original and has not been altered or modified. The helmet contains all of the original padding, as well as the leather jawpads. Kineomatic helmets are very hard to find and any, even high school helmets, found with the original padding demand high prices in the market. The helmet has an original Schutt OPO model facemask. The mask is secured to the helmet using reproduction clips along with the original hardware. The helmet has a late 70s Riddell four-point chinstrap that was on the helmet when we purchased it. There are no player identifiers found in the helmet.
The helmet logo decals and striping are proper and original to the helmet. They are positioned properly and adhered to the exterior of the helmet well, with no lifting. A very rare helmet, tough to find anywhere, in a rare very desirable model, with a rare original mask and hardware, ready to display and become the centerpiece for your collection.
