Game Worn Chiefs Riddell WD1 helmet. The helmet was originally manufactured in 1976 by Riddell as a Pac3 helmet. Over its life of more than ten (10) years, the helmet was transformed into the more modern WD1 model by changing the interchangeable interior cell padding units to the white colored WD1 variety.
The helmet is original as sourced to us. The logos feature the clear vinyl edge as used by the Chiefs in the 1980s. The helmet is complete with the exception of the "back" padding cells. The neck, front and crown padding along with the original Riddell Pac3 style jawpads remain with the helmet. As common on the majority of Chiefs helmets from this period, the facemask was swapped out with a Riddell "clunky" USFL style thick bar OPO. Although the Chiefs used some of these mask, normally by lineman (see our Budde helmet listed) the Chiefs would replace masks with the "free" Riddell mask prior to releasing to the public. Also common with Chiefs helmets from this era is multiple drill holes at the facemask side mounts to accommodate all of the various mask models used by the team over the years - Schutt, Dungard, and Riddell.
The helmet is signed by Donnell Bennett and Tamarick Vanover. Not that great as the two did not play for the Chiefs during this period, but the buyer can decide their value and remove the signatures if they choose. No player identifiers remain in the helmet as is the case with helmets that are released from the team.
A nice game used helmet from a desirable team, original, complete, and ready to display.
