Detroit Lions Gladiator suspension model helmet. The helmet is all original and complete with a manufacturing label and datecode on the interior of the helmet from 1973. The helmet is all original, complete, and unaltered or modified in any way.
The helmet has original striping and logo decals on the sides of the helmet. They are original to the helmet, propely positioned, and adhered well wih no lifting. There are two different player identifiers written on the factory label as well as the interior of the helmet in ball point pen - #68 (crossed out) and #16. There were no active players on the Lion's roster that wore the number 68 or 16 for the 1973 or the 1974 seasons. We believe this to be a camp helmet or a preseason helmet, which is logical with this being a Gladiator helmet with the Lions using predominately Riddell and MacGregor helmets.
The helmet has a Riddell Two-bar quarterback style mask but is also drilled for a conventional cage style facemask. This makes sense that the #68 has been crossed out with the holes for the cage present, and the two-bar mask on the helmet. The helmet has light to moderate wear to the outside as well as the inside. Just a very rare model in excellent condition ready to go on your shelf to show your friends.
