Game Worn Illinois Fighting Illini Riddell Micro Fit model helmet. The helmet was manufactured in 1970 and was used through the 1976 season. It is original and complete except for the chinstrap. The helmet has the Micro Fit cell fill padding along with the leather Riddell jawpads, and wildcat front bumper pad. The interior of the helmet is painted gray from the Riddell factory. The helmet has an original Dungard DG140 model lineman facemask. The mask is secured to the helmet using original Dungard clips and hardware. The helmet is a regular size. There are no player identifiers found in the helmet.
Illinois used this model of helmet along with Dungard masks during this period. The photo below shows team captain and NFL draft pick Stu Levenick holding the same model of helmet, the same front bumper pad, and a Dungard mask - attached with the same clips and hardware. As an offensive tackle, Levenick wore the larger cage on his helmet - though holding a prop helmet for his team media photo.
The helmet logo decals and striping are proper and original to the helmet. They are positioned properly and adhered to the helmet well, with no lifting. A very rare helmet, tough to find anywhere, in a rare very desirable model, with a rare original mask and hardware, ready to display and become the centerpiece for your collection.
