Game used West Texas State helmet from the early 1960s. The helmet is a Riddell RK2 suspension model with the 12-point suspension. The helmet is complete and original except for the missing chinstrap. Along with the complete suspension, the helmet has a molded early 2 bar mask, secured to the helmet using the original slotted hardware. The helmet has the original leather jaw pads, along with some RAC padding installed between the suspension and the helmet shell as shown in the last photo.
The factory date code stamped on the inside of the helmet is from 1959. Early Riddell heat stamps are found on the lower rear of the helmet. Interesting to note, that the center stripe is a molded red strip to reinforce the seam of the two (2) halves of the shell - as found on early Riddell RT model helmets from the 40s and 50s. This center ridge strip has white paint overspray on the lower rear side of the helmet. We believe this can be easily removed if the buyer would like to "restore" the center strip to its former glory.
The buffalo horn logos appear to be hand painted with a brush and touched up many times with layers under the outer most layer of paint. These horns were originally sprayed on the helmet as noted by "horn overspray" visible on the left side of the helmet where a hard hit caused outer white paint damage revealing the red overspray underneath. Very rare team helmet. We have not seen another original from this school - only replicas produced by the boys in Indiana.
