Game Used / Team Issued Edmonton Eskimos style King O'Shea factory painted suspension helmet. Yes, this is a very rare model of helmet. King O'Shea was the sister company under the Wilson Sporting Goods brand. The helmets were distributed to high school, college, and professional football teams throughout the United States and Canada. The helmets were identical to the Wilson helmets, made in the same factory.
Edmonton used Wilson helmets during the 1950s - as shown on the photos below, and is the exact model worn by Johnny Bright as shown below. The team had the helmets repainted after each season. This helmet with a 1955 date code falls in the middle of the Edmonton three Grey Cup Championships and was painted new at the Wilson factory. Although the helmet has not been drilled for a facemask, the owner may opt to install an original period mask to it or display it as is. The helmet shows little wear to the exterior and interior leather padding. There is tarnishing - green in color, near the bottom edge as well as near the suspension rivets - as many of the gold painted helmets from this era often do.
The original factory stamping are still like new on the rear of the helmet, with the brand, model, size, and datecode all legible. The leather padding is excellent and still pliable. Just a very fine football helmet from almost 70 years ago in excellent condition ready to be displayed. It is well worth the money as these helmets are impossible to find.
