Game Used Nebraska Cornhuskers #64 MacGregor 100MH Clear Shell Helmet.  This style of helmet was used by the Huskers from 1970 through the 1981 season.  For the 1982 season Nebraska switched to a red facemask as well as changing the font of the helmet's rear numbers. 

The “clear shell” helmet is a very rare and highly sought after model, with the logos and paint of the helmet under the clear shell.  There are some teams in college football that the majority of their helmets were MacGregor 100MH models due to the padding as well as the idea that the team would not need to repaint or apply new decals to these helmets as it was all under the protection of the clear shell.  Teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Pitt and others used these helmets extensively for years and today, these teams and others pop up more frequently than others.  Nebraska is one of the more rare helmets when it came to the 100MH model - choosing to use Riddell and Wilson as their preferred helmets.  A quick search on internet photo sites resulted in no game photos showing a Nebraska player wearing a MacGregor clear shell helmet. 

These helmets were, and are today, a bit brittle and prone to cracking - especially at the facemask mounts and this helmet is no exception.  The helmet has extensive cracking at the right side facemask mount and lighter cracking on the left side mask mounting point.  The right side has had some minor epoxy applied to the inside of the cracking to hold the cracking together and maintain the wonderful display condition that the helmet is in today.   The facemask clip covers some of the cracking while the new owner may choose to install a chinstrap to the helmet which would further hide the cracking.  

The helmet is complete with the exception of the chinstrap.  The helmet itself is all original and altered only with the epoxy as mentioned above.  The padding is original, in great condition with some wear to the forehead area, and complete including the original jawpads.  The logos are perfect and colorful, properly positioned with no issues.  The paint is perfect on this helmet with no adhering issues - i.e. bubbles as some of these helmets have.  When we purchased the helmet, it was without a facemask.  we have chosen a facemask for it based off the #64 of the helmet, consistent with the wear of the helmet, and finally - one that fits the helmet properly - that does not stress the helmet side mounting positions to futher damage the cracking.  An excellent, very rare model of a Huskers helmet - that you may never see another one like it.
