Cornelius Bennett. A three time All American out of Alabama. In his senior season, Bennett won the Lombardi award, was the SEC Player, and finished 7th in the Heisman voting.
During his four years at Alabama, Bennett struck fear into the hearts of the opponent with 287 tackles and 21.5 sacks. He was elected into the College Hall of Fame, and was selected by
the Colts with the second pick of the draft in 1987. Bennett lasted 14 years in the NFL - unheard of for a hard hitting linebacker. During this time, Bennett lead his team to five Superbowls.
The future Hall of Famer recorded 1,190 tackles, 71 sacks, 7 interceptions, and 27 fumble recoveries. He was the NFL Defensive Player of the year twice, and was elected to the all decade team
of the 1990's. How do you spell Canton? B-E-N-N-E-T-T. This is Bennett's 1998 helmet that he wore with the Falcons. All components of this helmet are original, worn by Bennett, and consistent with
Falcons game helmets.
Riddell AF-2 model helmet, molded black, in a size X-Large. The helmet comes complete with a Schutt JOP-DW-XL thin coated Vinyl Guard mask as preferred by Bennett during his career. The mask is attached to the
helmet with Schutt Clips on the top and old design stabilizer clips on the sides. Phillips Schutt screws are used to secure the mask. The mask is dated March of 1998, and the clips are dated 1997. The chinstrap is a Riddell soft,
cup in the low mount configuration. Riddell metal buckles hold the chinstrap to the helmet in the low positions.
The decals of the helmet remain intact with no lifting or seperation from the helmet. They are scuffed and scraped and show light use for a helmet worn by a linebacker.
The helmet has some deep scratches and gouges in the front as well as lighter scratches and scrapes to the top, rear, and sides. Decals on the rear of the helmet include:
Authentic team mini warning label as consistant with 1998 helmets, NFL Shield, #97 in Falcons font, as well as a Falcons rear and front bumper decals to cover the Riddell names on the helmet.
Inside the helmet is the Riddell AF-2 label, Warning label, #97 identifier, as well as a reconditioning decal identifying the type of mask and #97. There is also a reconditioning number under the
left jawpad. In addition, there is an Atlanta Falcons inventory barcode decal inside the helmet. Yes, the search to the number on this decal, identifies the helmet as Bennett's.
The inside of the helmet is in excellent condition with little wear, and some sweat staining on the padding. The facemask has minor scuffs and scrapes with no bare metal showing. This helmet displays very well.
